With fuel costs accounting for up to 80% of a plant’s total running costs, any increase in energy efficiency can have a big impact on the bottom line. In fact, GE Power estimated that in the U.S., a 1% rise in efficiency can lead to fuel savings of $50 million over ten years.

As operators are pressed to increase productivity and reduce cost to produce, they're turning to new strategies and tools that can help their turbines deliver greater energy efficiency benefits – every kilowatt of energy saved during production means more money in a plant’s pocket.

Lubrication can play a key role in helping to deliver on these energy efficiency ambitions, including through new product technologies specifically designed to improve energy efficiency.

To help with this challenge, ExxonMobil and GE came together to develop Mobil SHC 918 EE gas turbine oil, a first-of-its-kind technology that can:

  • Help produce 15% bearing efficiency improvement* for GE 7HA and 7FA turbines.
  • Enhance energy efficiency, as confirmed by GE's new GEK121603 turbine oil specification that only this oil meets.

*The energy efficiency of Mobil SHC 918 EE relates solely to the fluid performance when compared to conventional ISO 32 VG turbine oils. Mobil SHC 918 EE improved turbine overall efficiency by approximately .09% due to a 15% reduction in bearing frictional energy losses when compared to a conventional ISO VG 32 turbine oil in GE-designed bearing rig, test stand and global field demonstrations.
