ExxonMobil’s Beaumont refinery is powered by a series of GE gas turbines. Because it requires an enormous amount of power to operate, the refinery has focused on making improvements that can reduce fuel costs between turbine overhauls of 64,000 hours.
Based on ExxonMobil and GE’s confidence in the oil, the Beaumont refinery switched one of its GE 7FA gas turbines to Mobil SHC™ 918 EE turbine oil. The turbine is now operating at a lower heat rate as a result of the oil’s lower dynamic viscosity and specific heat.
